I think hes thinking more like the old cars and race cars where you flip a switch to activate the ignition then push a button to start. The whole key proximity thing for security is nice but like you said it could be glitchy, then again the one car I've been in that had that also wouldn't start unless it sensed weight in the driver seat and it worked great.
Theres a couple of places you could check, start at summit and jegs they'll have more of a racing style push button starters if you look under electrical and switches. Also I've seen a "kit" for newer mustangs that plugs into the ignition wiring harness and turns them into push start. Its about $125 though you'd probably spend close to that by the time you finished getting what you needed at summit.
