Default Relay Help

I've got a 01 XLT and I can hear a relay clicking on and off non stop under my dash. I can hear it right below the steering wheel. Anyone know what relays are right there and what they control, or what could be making it do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same truck, and mine does that too... but only when there is a bad battery connection, or the battery's dead...

There are no relays there. All relays are under the hood in a dist. box on the driver side up by the firewall

Only thing really there is the flasher deal for the turn signals

In 2001, there is a relay box under the dash to the right of the steering column. It may have as many as 6 relays depending on options.

Most, if not all, Rangers have relays in the under hood distribution box. For several years there was also a small Relay Box under the dash. IIRC, that box was used from 95~2003. Ford eliminated it starting in 2004MY when a lot of the interior electronics were consolidated in the Smart Junction Box under the passenger side kick panel.

Check inside the Aux Relay Box up under the dash to right of the column. It is roughly 2x2x8" with a black snap-off cover. 2001 Ranger will have some combination of these depending on option content:
  • Flasher relay
  • Horn relay
  • Interior lamp relay
  • Battery saver relay
  • Autodown window relay
  • Window safety relay

It sounds like a turn signal that keeps clicking. It tricks me sometimes and makes me check if my signals are off. Everything seems to be working fine, so I don't know what would make it do this. Its pretty annoying though.
