Question Multi Function Switch & Brake Lights?

So none of my brake lights are working on the 95 ranger 2wd 5spd. I threw a new brake pedal switch on it, but no good. So I jumped the switch connector wires and still no brake lights... Not the tails or the cab light. Everything else works though... Parking lights, blinkers, hi/lo beams, cargo light, wipers, etc.

I googled around and read something saying that the multiple function switch can cause all the brake lights to fail, but everything else work normally... Which is the case for me.

Problem is that they were talking about an 02-05 (I think) explorer, and before I go replacing this thing for $50+, I'd like someone to confirm that it's a likely cause of my problem.

I don't think it's related, but my ignition switch is messed up too. You can pull the key out at any time, and the metal thumb rest ring on it just spins around freely if no key is in the switch. This, I think, causes my dome light to stay on sometimes after closing the door, and/or the door dinger to constantly chime until you reposition the ring to it's proper location. Also recently began chiming the door dinger when doors are shut and switch is turned back so just the radio is on. But, you still need the key to unlock the wheel and start the truck.

And yes, I have checked the bulbs, and looked over the fuses in both dash and under hood panels. Everything looked fine, however, I didnt see a fuse labeled 'brake lights', or anything close to it, so I don't know if I missed something, or what. But none were blown, so whatever!?

Well, I got the new multiple-function switch put in, but still nothing. Sucks, but I'm only out $30, and it looks nice, and feels a lot better than the original... No slop.

So that's a new switch on the column, and the new pedal switch, and still no brake lights at all. Not even if I jump the pedal switch contacts!

So I'm looking into wiring. I've read that the light green wire in the column, where the MFS connects, that powers the brake lights. Does anyone know anything more about the wiring? Got a diagram?

Can someone say which lead to the pedal switch is hot and ground, so I can test for power to the switch?

Any other ideas?

I'm about to just run my own brake light wiring from battery or fuse panel, to pedal switch, to all 3 lights. I don't see why it wouldnt work. And I could tuck it all away so nobody would even notice. I'm just tired of messing with the damn thing, and it's just a beater work vehicle anyway!

Did you really d any research or did you want forum members to do it for you? In about thirty seconds of looking I found out what fuse was for the brake aka stop lights on your rig it is #13 in the cab fuse box, now would you like a forum member t come over and check it, change it for you or hold your hand while you do it. RESEARCH

brakes on 90% off cars/trucks are powered fulltime with ignition off(safetyfactor)...

get a testlight and check fuse 13 for power, if none there then you'll have to trace the feed wire or cut it off and refeed 12v to it from the battery(as you were going to do)....

diagram as requested.. pm'd as well with the pic...

Hey F*** tard I did read your first post before I replied the first time just trying to give a little help with locating proper fuse. But now you can shove it. All newbies are alike want everybody to do their work for them and never hear back from them until they need help again.
