Default Radio/clock no power... sometimes.

Hi all,

I've been having issues for several days now with my radio and clock not working when I start my vehicle. Sometimes they work when I crank the truck but more often than not they don't. There is no power to them when not working and when they decide to come on when I start the truck, the clock has lost its time of course. They do not go off and on while driving - they either are on or not. I checked the audio fuses as listed in the manual and am guessing it is ignition related, but is there anything else I can check before turning it over to a mechanic? Coincidentally, I just got an XM radio for Christmas which broadcasts through the radio in the dash. I don't believe I dislodged anything while tucking in the small antenna wire but figured it was worth mentioning.

The vehicle is a 2002 Ford Ranger, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, did you check the fuse, and the fuse block? Might want to pull the radio and look at the connection at the back of the radio.

Yes, checked all the fuses and tested them. Since I posted the radio and clock have begun working steadily for 5 days now, which makes me think it isn't fuse related but the problem also isn't solved and am sure it will come back. I don't have the tool to pull the radio but suppose I can make one unless they are cheap.

Yea, just make one..., Just grab a wire coat hanger measure up 5.5 inches from the corners and cut so you have what looks like a pair of long tweezers. plugi'um in the holes and out comes the radio

you could just remove the Stereo bezel. Two bolts near the Hvac controls will make removing the stereo and the bezel easy.
