...but not when drivers door opens? i have looked the door and door jamb over and over looking for a switch and i cannot find one.. how does the interior light come on when the door opens with out a switch in the jamb..

I had this happen on a '98 f150. The switch is inside the door. I had a shop do it so I wouldn't break any of the plastic parts involved in taking the door panel off! It wasn't a big bill but labor was more than the switch cost.

Newer Ford use a latch door switch to turn the dome light on.It located in the door. To get to it you need to remove the door panel and feel for the electrical. connection near the door latch.Most times you have to buy the whole latch assemble .If your not good with car do not do this yourself as alignment of this part can be tough.
