Default Dead battery.. Or so i thought.

A few days ago I came out to start my truck for work. But the battery was dead. I got my little jump box. It fired up. No big deal. It happened again the next morning. So I figured that it was about time for a new battery. My plans were to go up to Napa today and have the test my battery and most likely get a new one.

Well. The truck won't start now. The battery is completely dead. I hooked a starter box to the terminals but it still clicks. You know that dead battery click. Looking at the power going into the cables is 14 volts. But my voltmeter on the trick is maxing out. As well as the digital one on my cap for my stereo. It's never done this.

When I turn the key I hear a hum from under the dash I think? But immediately switch it back off. I've unhooked every possible component that I've added to insure they are not the problem.

I know it's a horrible description of what is happening. But it is what I know. Can anyone guide me as to what it may be. Or a way to diagnose.

Okay so I guess my truck just doesn't like me. I put the battery on charge for about 45 mins and it fired right up! Mods please close.

I wouldn't close it yet. Wait and see if it will turn over again tomorrow.

A jump box usually has enough juice to boost the car...but not a deep cycled battery and the car.

Always let it sit for awhile before trying to crank it up

Have your alternator checked.

nah it's still a dead battery. I had that happen twice on my '00 cavalier (didn't drive it enough during the winters). After the clicking sound, you could hear the electrical system working somewhat (the under-dash hum you described), then shut itself off.

Don't nitpick, just get a new battery and you'll feel much better.

I just put a new alternator on it this summer. So that should be good to go. It's still putting out a strong 14 volts. I made a trip to town and got a new battery. Lets hope that fixes it!
