Default DRL disable

I have an 06 ranger and am having trouble with my hid kit. I need to disable the Daytime Running Lights but cant figure it out. I have searched all over the web and even this forum.

Where is the module to disable them? I have read it is under the left fender but i have looked everywhere. Please help

can you post a descriptive "how to". not just "unplug it"

why do you have DRL in the first place. Is it a canadian truck?

not sure, but i do have them.

The first reply didnt help much. it just says that there is no fuse that can be unplugged. Doesn't really help on how to bypass the DRL or make it so just the parking lights come on as the DRLs.

If this were me I would use a relay or transistor that would only allow current to the headlights if it saw power at the switch. There is probably a sexier way of doing it though.

Re read it again and pay close attention to the bold letters and especially the red underlined letters

2004 and later have the DRL controls integrated into a circuit board in the Smart Junction Box. I'm not handicapped. I understand that there is no simple disconnect to turn them off. Reread my post again. My question is HOW to disable them

I am having same issue. DRL's are required on 96 or newer vehicles and it is a big fine without them. Points also. They can actually send your vehicle for a safety inspection that you will pay for. The repairs will also have to be done by licensed mechanic no matter how small they are...shitty.
I am told the problem is that drl's run on 6volts not the twelve that the ballast requires.
At this point I have to turn on headlights b4 starting or taking off the ebrake. Gotta be an easier way. My brain wont stop turning until I find a way to disable them or get twelve volts going through them when I turn on the ignition.

And unless you are in US I highly doubt ford will disable them......

A good friend of mine who i have been talking to about this problem for a while now may have finally come up with a reasonable solution. He is thinking that instead of connecting the HID's to the light harness. maybe we should try splicing the connection into the switch for the Lights instead that way the HID's will receive no power until the switch is turned. I don't have my new set of HID's yet so i can't test this theory yet but I'll be more then happy to post the outcome if no-one beats me to it.

I'm with Jp7 on the relay idea. I've done my research as well since my 2004 has them - no idea why, it's an American truck.

While I had my HID's, I toyed with the idea of connecting the low beams to a relay connected to the battery and switched on/off by the main wire off of the headlight switch. My theory is that the DRLs will be turned off and the high beams and low beams should be able to work through your switch. The wires connect to the module in the passenger side compartment, so you've got plenty of room to work with - you just need to figure out which wire controls your low beams.

If you do this, please let us know how it turns out. Even though I do not have the HID's anymore, I'm still interested in trying it out - I'm just too lazy to do it at the moment.

The best way to do this would be to this would be to swap the SJB with one that does not have the DRL. I don't know if the DRL is programmed through software inside of the SJB, or if the DRL circuitry is physically integrated inside of the SJB.

3 situations:

1 - You change the SJB to a NON-DRL SJB.

The Cluster and ECU will probably not be married through software to the SJB and the truck will need to be reprogrammed at the dealer. The truck will probably not start

2 - You have the software in the SJB adjusted so that the DRL is off. Only the dealer will be able to do this, unless you find someone to hack the software. This is VERY difficult to do, but it is something I am interested in learning how to do because very soon (even know) everything will be controlled through the SJB's via the CANBUS network (it's digital)

3 - (unlikely) possibly the SJB's are plug and play. I doubt it though because I know you can't use a different cluster on a 2004 without having it married through software. This would be the easiest option though, but I am guessing it will need to be initialized through software.
