2002 ranger electric shift 4wd.
The problem is not the shift motor. i tested the motor on and off the transfer case with a battery and it runs fine.

When my truck is running it wont shift into 4wd. i can turn the switch but the dash lights wont turn on and the transfer case doesnt shift.

When I turn the key to ignition w/o starting engine and turn the 4wd switch to 4hi i can hear the soloniod under the dach click and the shiftmotor run and click + the 4hi light on the dash lights up. however nothing happens when i turn the switch to 4low.

I've tried starting my truck after doing this but the dash lites turn off and it must shift back to 2wd.

I have a chip made by Jet performance that i got when i bought the truck. it says it can run diagnostics but it doesnt detect any errors.

anyone seen anything like this?

As well as you must be completely stationary and. It must be in neutral,

I would start by removing the chip, might narrow the problem a little bit
