Default battery, wires or something else?

so i have a 1996 ranger with 155,000 miles. a little background:

A couple weeks ago i was driving and my voltage meter started to jump down especially when i was hard on the gas. at night my lights would go dim. the battery light also started to flicker on. i tested my battery and alternator and it was putting out around 12 when i hit the throttle hard.

So i replaced the alternator, and everything went back to normal for 2 or so days.

Today i go to start it up and NOTHING. not even the starter wants to kick in. car wont even turn on the radio or anything.

obviously my battery is dead, but my question is WHY?
it seems too much of a coincidence that my alternator and battery both fail in two days.

does anyone have any experience with this? Wire shortage of some sort??

thanks!

It could be that you have a short in your wiring thats allowing for the charge to discharge into something else other than what it normal does if you follow me. I could unhook your battery and run your hand along the battery to see if there is any rubber mess but be careful to not get poked by any sticking out metal wire and be sure there is not juice in the system cuz if there is you could act like a ground and it go thru you

^ Electricity doesn't work like that.

Before you go nuts looking for a problem, are you sure you didn't just leave something on? Get it charged back up or replace the battery. See if the problem reoccurs.
