Default need ignition cylinder help

i just bought a 00 ranger xlt with the transponder keys. i was only given one key (a copy)and no remotes when i got the truck. i have been having alot of trouble turning the key even when wiggling the wheel. im thinking i can find the ignition lock, ecu and keys from the same year truck with the same engine and transplant without any reprogrammming ?

If the key is worn any at all, adn you are having to jiggle it up n down, or so, so, just to get it to unlock the ignition and turn it the wafers and/or the key is just worn down. You can always turn the igniton 1/4 turn (to accessory?), adn very slowly pull out the lock by pushing in the retainer pin if one is found under teh sterring column to see if their is a factory code key coding stamped on the outer shell of the lock, and if so write this down nd gt another key made for it with the specs from a code machine.

Mine was also sticking and wouldn't even turn backwards to acc mode anymore so I just bought the cylinder from auto zone with the 2 new keys and had the dealership re program it. It took about 15 mins and cost about $100 but it was a lot easier than looking for a key with the same code. All in all the total swapout took like 15 minutes on my end and 15 minutes on the dealerships end.

First, how much of the key is broken off in the lock? Second, a locksmith may very well be able to use a broken key extractor, and pull out the piece of broken key, from the igniton lock without it having to be entirely replaced, and you having to replace the entire lock again. Third, if you can still stick half the key in to the ignition cylinder, and then turn the key to start the truck, do it that way temporarily, or hold the transponder head up to the ignition and tunr it to start the truck. First ask locksmith if they can try removing the broken piece with a broken key extractor tool. I used to remove alot of theses, and not have to replace an ignition.

exactly where underneath the column is the pin? I broke a key off in my 1994 ford ranger tonite, got the key to turn to get it home and now when I tried to extract the ignition I cannot turn the key at all. if I knew where all was located, maybe I could extract that part of the ignition and get the key out. about 3/4 of the key is in the ignition. without a transponder would a locksmith be a better bet? no reprogramming needed, but would the dealer have a key I could buy if I can extract the broken part of the key?
