For the Ranger you use 194LL. Can it be any 194 or is the LL important.

You can use either 168 or 194 bulbs, it doesn't matter on the LL, I just changed mine with all regular 168 bulbs, lights up fine.

That's a great video and will really help me when I go to swap out the clusters, but I can't get the bulbs out of the black housings. The bulbs out of the cluster in that video are significantly bigger than the ones in my cluster. I can barely pinch the ones out of my cluster.

On those little bulbs like that, I use a small rubber hose to grab them, slip it over the bulb and your fingers should be able to pull it out.Depending on the size of the bulb a straw sometimes works.Good Luck!

Ok, I'll try that! Now I just have to figure out if the LEDs I got will work. I have my doubts.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just changed my 99 Ranger to all LEDs on the instrument cluster. They all have to go in correct polarity. I made a picture so maybe I can help someone else with polarity issues. It took me a while to get them all right, but they look awesome! I changed the illumination bulbs, and the dummy lights. Illumination LED's are the T10 194's, the dummy LED's are T5 74's. I actually blew my red Theft LED out! It's not 12V, it's 6V. I changed it with a blue 6V LED. Only color I had on hand. Hope this helps someone. I had to resize my pics down somewhat to be able to post. Hard to see the black negative on the LED's, look closely for the red positive on the pic diagram.

So I did this today. Thanks much to the original poster for the detailed procedures.
Unlike others here, I am retarded and don't regularly mess with vehicles, so it took me over 3 hours.
