I have done all that and my bulbs are super tiny, I have bought 194 LED lights and they do not fit at all, they are a #73 or a #74 size bulb.

here is a comparison of the 194 and the #74

I bought LED bulbs and they fit just right. They are even replacements of the 194 bulbs. But then I really got down to it and fully customizing it by doing LED strips in em. So yeah

Hey man, I have an 01. I replaced my bulbs that burned out in my cluster, they were just the black ended ones that twist out. How do you do the LED's and where can I find those bulbs?

The LED bulbs you can find on eBay or SuperBrightLED.com. There the same bulb size only LED. I used LED strips instead of the bulbs and ran them inside my cluster and solder them into the black caps that held the stock bulbs in. It takes a good time to do this method so if you have the patience, then go for it! If not and you need your cluster right away for driving and all, I would then go ahead and get some plug in LEDs. They won't look as good as getting and doing the LED Strip method but you'll get a look at on how LED's work in the cluster and that it can get even brighter if you do the strip method. Hope this helps! If you need anymore information, just hit me up on here or PM me. PS, you might get some hotspots on your cluster of you use plug in's. I had some and that's why I use the strips lol. Good luck!

What do you mean by hot spots? Will I burn something out or something like that?

No not at all! Hot spots is what you get when using LED's. LED plug in's does not scatter the light out through the cluster evenly so as a result, you will get brighter spots in certain places on the cluster which is called hot spot's. It's normal and fine, that's just how plug in LED's are. That's why I went to using LED strips and they work better than the plug in's

if you go through and change the bulbs of only the black caps will that change the color of the entire cluster or just of certain areas because my goal is to change mine to all red backlight. If so how many bulbs do i need?

Well I came across this thread because my speedo does not work and I have to get into my dash to fix, it it what the book says to do and the step by step guide is a great help. Not sure when I will do this, prolly in the next few days, any one have any pointers for the speedo part of this job? Thankfully, I guess, I have a dashlight out right over the most important part of the speedo, right at 65 mph, so I will be killing 2 birds with one stone. One other thing and I guess it is not that important, the book, Haynes, says to disconnect the neg side of the battery if you have airbags. I am guessing no one ran into the problem of them deploying? I have a 97mazda b2300 btw. I am curious also as the book says to just take the radio out, but I see the whole cluster was pulled on this how to. Is it just easier to pull the whole cluster as you need a special tool for the radio? anyways, good how to thread. I now feel way more confident to do this now. I will time myself to see how I stack up. lol

well that only took an hour and twenty. Cleaned my lens and insturment cluster now I just have to wait until dark to see how my dash looks all lit up and clean. I only broke like 2 of those fasteners. lol So far it looks very good and it is still held in tightly
