Default Main wiring harness to tranny harness [I think] wiring help urgently needed

Hello all, you've been a great help with the current clutch job I am doing on a 1996 Ranger XLT 2.3 5spd.

When putting the tranny back on, the bracket that the two topmost tranny bots go through, and the associated plug got caught inbetween the tranny and the block, crushing the plug in the process totally.

I went to hard wire it today and the colors don't match perfectly!!!

Went through the wiring diagram in Haynes with about zero luck/comprehension for this situation and I sincerely hope someone can help.

[I am a little fuzzy on some of the colors and may be off]

The wiring colors on the engine side
listed as main color / stripe color are as follows:

Orange [or pink?] / light grey
Black / Pink
Purple / Orange
Red / Grey
red / grey

The wiring colors on the transmission side
listed as main color / stripe color are as follows:

Orange [or tan?] / Pink?
Black / pink
Grey / Black
Purple / Orange
Red / Grey
Tan [or orange?] / Purple?

Anyway in case this helps [as the colors are listed slighly differently]
Here is a listing of the wires that don't have pairs

ENGINE:

Grey or Grey/White
Red / Grey

TRANSMISSION

Brown
Black / White

We're getting ready to make a salvage yard run, but don't know how it'll do, hoping some wiring master will help while we're gone....

Thanks again all!

Default Re: Main wiring harness to tranny harness [I think] wiring help urgently needed

bump, and more details.

Went to the wreckers and pulled a few plugs, and found the one that is identical to the one we busted.

The plug body is setup at the wire end with 2 rows of 4 holes, and only six wires. Both sides. A row of 4 and a row of 2

Will update with all the exact wiring colors tmrw, but I am pretty sure I got everything matched up buy cutting back the harness a ways so I could see wire colors without 300,000 miles of grime on them..

One side of the plug goes to all the tranny sensors, the other side hooks it into the main harness

My issue and big question now:

there is one wire that on the 'engine' side of the plug is White or Grey with a black stripe, and on the 'transmission' side is just plain grey.

Every other wire color matched perfectly, and the plug I got from the yard as an example showed a Grey or White with Black stripe on both sides of the plug.

I traced the transmission side all the way to the last 2 wire plug/sensor at the back of the tranny near the driveshaft, it has a grey and an orange or brown wire coming out of it.

WTF? It's the last pair of wires left, there are no other loose wires anywhere, they for SURE came from the opposite sides of the same plug.

Any ideas?
