Default Projector retrofit

Is a projector retrofit simply cutting out a hole in the oem housing to install a projector in?

My 2001 2.5l is not worth buying new lights. I have a set of 3" projectors and HIDS I can throw in but want clarification that it is simply usin the stock housing to "retrofit" projectors?

I'm using a 3" I guess you could call it a universal projector because it isn't designed for a particular model of vehicle. A while back I bought a 2" projector to mold fog lights into my wife's Mazda 3. Anywway they sent 3" projectors that didn't fit in the stock location without cutting the bumper. The company let me keep the 3" and sent the 2" which I made a mold to fit the stock location where they sit today.

I still have the 3" ones and I'd like to see if I can cut out a hole and fiberglass them into the stock light housing.

Yes you cut a hole. The size of the hole and any other mounting/bracket/screw holes depends on the make/model of the projector.
