I have been reading the other posts on fuel pump relay issues and figured I would post to see if I am going about tracking down the problem right.

I just got a 1994 4cyl 2wd stick shift with 122k miles. It started and ran fine when I got it a week ago. It sat 2 days and wouldn't start. Pulled out and cleaned the fuel pump relay and it ran fine for 140 miles.

Today it shut off. I drifted to the side of the road, opened the hood and pulled and replaced the 3 relays. it started right up and ran fine.

I am thinking this is either a problem with one of the relays or a problem with the wiring to the relay (one of the connections to the fuse box/relay).

I figure I will pull and clean the wires to the relay and replace the fuel pump relay and that might fix it.

Anything else I should look at or do?

At this point I don't believe its the relay itself. It happened twice when I shut the truck down today. 1st time I tried just the fuel pump relay, taking it out then back in and nothing. Did the other 2 relays and it fired up and ran. Happened again and I did just the EEC relay first and it wouldn't run, so I did both of the others and it started and ran. Maybe a ground or something.

Generally relays don't fail intermittantly, right? usually its that they work or not, there is no middle ground?
