Default Multifunction Switch Wiring Harness ('98 Ranger 3.0)

Six months ago I replaced the multifuntion switch on my 98 Ranger 3.0 XLT and solved my problem with not getting turn signal lights. At the time, I also replaced the relay. When I had it all apart, I noticed that both clips on the top connector were broken, so the wiring could slide in and out. I figured that I could leave the steering collum in one place (even removed the adjustment knob to be sure) and figured that would keep the harness connected. Fast forward six months and I had the same issue with no turn signals, so I opened it up and pushed the harness back into place. To my surprise I heard an electrical "grinding noise" coming from the relay. To me that spelled "a short." I'm not sure if its the connector or the wiring harness.

Does anyone have experience with this and can 1) tell me what it likely is, and 2) help me find the parts I need?

Probably just the loose connection contacting and disconnecting rapidly causing the relay to energize and denergized.

Do you think replacing the connector would solve the problem? Or is it more likely the wiring harness?...or, maybe the new switch has gone bad?
