Default Overdrive wires sparked causing other problems

Hello all. This is my first post here, though I've used the forum as a guest quite a few times in the recent weeks since buying my Ranger.

I bought a 2003 Ranger XLT 3.0 automatic transmission with 151,000 miles on it a couple weeks ago. Have been fixing several problems, but came across one I can't figure out the solution to.

The overdrive didn't work when I bought it. Pressing the button did nothing, no light and it did not engage. I pulled the column apart, and found that the wires were broken. I temporarily taped them together, and lo and behold, it started working. Well, last week I went out to solder them together to permanently fix them, and in the course of doing so, one wire slipped and caused a spark on something. I didn't think too much about it, and finished the job. After finished, I checked function, and it didn't work. Not only did the overdrive not engage, but now my AC does not work, and the airbag light stays continuously lit.

What could the spark have done, and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Well, I got lucky and was going through the fuses. Found that #2 was bad, got it replaced, and everything works again. I checked the relays before, and checked fuse 18 before that, thinking that was the right one. Interested is the fuse diagram does not mention the overdrive in fuse #2, but it solved that problem too.

Awesome man. I'm glad you got it figured out.

Remeber if your working on ANYTHING electrical, unhook the negative on the battery to prevent any type of damage like this.
