so after i installed the rollpan, my license plate lights had to go

i cut them off and replaced with LED bolts

i kept the sockets with a good amount of wire and would like to mount them at an angle underneath my bed, angled down towards the back of my truck

i would then wire them up to my brake lights, so that when i berake at night time, the ground from my rear tires to a feet or so past my rollpan will be red.

please help

Best thing for you to do is pull each side brake/turn corner fixtures, figure out with wire feeds the power to the "brake/turn signal" filiment in the bulb (assuming you have a 2 bulb setup) , tap into that to get your power for your extra light. The other two wires are for ground and running lights.

Pull the left for the left side and right for the right side. Your extra lights will blink with the appropiate side when signaling. And theres no way around that unless you tied into the center light somehow.(lots and lots of wire routing to pull that off)

I know you asked for the trailer wiring way but the way i told you is much simpler. Less routing of wire would be required. With the trailer wiring way you would have to cut the plastic tubing open to gain access to the wiring close to your proposed lighting idea and with the way i explained wiring is already exposed. Just buy wire tap-ins. Makes it way easy to "splice" in.
