Windshield wipers not working properly
98 xlt 4.0, my windshield wipers work, sometimes, and not other times. sometimes they'll work fine, and then stop without me touching the switch. sometimes they won't work at all when I turn them on. The only surefire way for me to get them to move is hitting the spray button, which gets them to do a few swipes. Obviously this is obnoxious when its raining, I've been in situations where I literally have to hit that button over and over again because the switch wont turn them on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Windshield wipers not working properly
mine does the opposite. i have 'phantom wiper syndrome', as they come on randomly without the switch being turned on.

Re: Windshield wipers not working properly
Both cases are usually caused by a broken multi-function switch (the stick). It is a bolt on replacement.

Re: Windshield wipers not working properly
Anyway I could get a picture of exactly what it is I'm looking for? Never really messed around in the dash area, aside from the radio

Just pop off the two panels covering the steering colum. Then unbolt the switch and pop in the new one. Easy fix had the same problem

Guys there a write up on this on TRS. It's not very good. I found a better one on an F150 forum (idr the name). Do some searching on here because I posted the link to this on an old thread.

Used this link: http://www.fordf150.net/howto/fix-in...er-problem.php
From my little test in the driveway after cleaning it, the wipers seem to be working perfectly now. Thanks for the help!

Re: Windshield wipers not working properly
Sounds like the electrical contact tangs on the resistor disk aren't contacting well. You could probably tear apart the switch and fix it without paying for that overpriced switch. Let me find a link to my Lincoln Turn signal switch mode to show you what I'm talking bout.
Here it is: http://www.ranger forums .com/interi...switch-118910/
Remove the spaces. Links to rangerforums won't work directly.
Look at the pictures mikerider posted (post #2). You will see a disk. There is a small "tube" with tangs that fit on the disk.
You can remove the chrome cap without removing anything else (shroud or switch). I would remove the chrome piece pull out the selector tube and bend the copper tang(s) down more and see if that works.
