I am a mechanic but mostly on heavy equipment and am not as up to date on passenger vehicles as i'd like to be. I have a 1995 Ford Ranger Splash with the 3.0L V6, standard trans, 4wd, a/c, and 231,000 miles on it. i have been having this no-start issue for a while. it will crank but does not fire. it did seem that it only happened after the truck had been sitting for a while, if i got it to start i could go to town and start and stop all day long, but if left sit for couple of days then it didn't want to start again. fuel pump kicks on, but not getting spark. i checked the elec. connecter plug to the ign. coil pack and am getting battery voltage to it, crank sensor seems to be ok, about .05v being sent to coil pack signal wires?, but i never get a ground reading on any of the 4 wires on that plug. then i found (when checking the relays and fuses) that when i wiggled the relay/fuse box under the hood it would start up. this has me thinkin rubbed wire in the harness or corrosion on wire terminals. took the back off the fuse/relay box and checked all wires, little to no corrosion. i can't see any apparent rubbed bare wires in that area of the harness. all SEEMS to be ok. is this just coincidence? i find it hard to believe that my problem could be something else and wiggling the fuse box just happened to coincide with the intermittent solution to the real problem. i really am not looking forward to tearing into that wire harness, and in fact am starting to doubt that i need to, but will if i have to. i need to understand more about all the relays and seperate relay boxes in this thing, i need to understand the ignition system better. can anyone help me?
