Gauge problems
I have a 89 ford ranger 4x4. Today I took my dash apart to change some burned bulbs in my dash and after puting everything back together noticed my tach was not working. Tried everything took everything apart cleaned the points of contact and still does not work. does anyone have any ideas? has anyone else had this problem. Also my temperature and oil temp gauges have never worked. not sure how to fix this but any ideas would help. Thanks!

Are the temp and oil sensors working properly? All connections clean and snug, engine bay and behind dash?

My temp gauge never worked either, I just replaced the temp sending unit (about 10 bucks) and it works fine now. I assume there is a similar unit for oil.

Oil pressure sending unit. I believe that is what's its called. As for the tach, it sounds like a loose wire. Try tapping on the face of the instrument cluster and see if it makes a difference. A previous vehicle of mine would have fits like this, a couple taps and it would be back to normal

Re: Gauge problems
Would replacing the temp sending also fix the oil temp gauge and the engine temp gauge? I've also taken the dash apart and cleaned everything behind the rpm gauge and still doesn't work.

The oil gauge is a pressure gauge I believe. Coolant temp and oil pressure are two different gauges

Re: Gauge problems
Well I went to pick and pull today and pulled a whole gauge cluster. Got the tach working but now no dash lights at all. Can someone tell me where the grounds are for the dash? This seems
Like a ground problem cuz I checked all the fuses and there all fine. Thanks
