94 ranger electrical problems
Hello all, I just bought a 94 Ranger, I drove it around , and seemed fine, drove it to work (5am) all the way there the wipers kept going, finally I found a setting where they stopped. Then the lights started dimming, and it started bucking, and totally lost power, and died, waited about 15 minutes, and it started up, drove it for about 5 miles and the same thing. Some guy gave me a jump and got to work. My wife bought a new battery, and I went to Autozone and they said the alt wasn't charging, got a new one ran for a day and battery went dead, I did a quick fix on the head lights that was on the interweb, to get the lights going, jumped two wires, now I have headlights, but in low only, and they drain the battery down quick, any suggestions? or help?

Alternator.. take it off and get it checked at autozone. Quick cause it will destroy that new battery if its bad.

Re: 94 ranger electrical problems
My 94 3.0 V-6 bucks and misses going uphill ( under load ) but seems to run like a top
when flat and level or downhill....I have suspected the coil or ignition problem but no
concern about the alternator...it charges okay and cranks up okay...
What would cause skipping or missing under load?? Ron 94 Ranger

Spark plugs possibly. Maybe a bad cylinder. Oorrrr your tranny.

Re: 94 ranger electrical problems
Sorry my 94 Ranger is 4.0 V-6 not 3.0....
----------
Plugs were recently changed on two cylinders...the other 4 were changed a year before....I will check the plugs first since that has been the problem previously...
Thanks, Ronzo

Re: 94 ranger electrical problems
hey when a alternator is not charging it will really kill the battery and all your electrical components are all fighting for there fair share of juice.your on the right track with the alternator.you kind of slipped that headlight problem in there at the end not sure if it was just cause the battery had the shit kicked out of it or if you have a bad relay or fuse.the wipers running is probably the multi function switch that controls the wipers and the turn signals.my truck is a 95 and does the same thing.

Re: 94 ranger electrical problems
I undid the headlight "fix", and went and bought a used multi-switch, Now I have headlights! Bought a new connector to the alternator, and I drove to work today, but Autozone said my alt was only charging 12.25v, so I've got a power drain somewhere....aaarrrggghhh..... I love this truck, I've wanted a Ranger for years, but it's nickle and dimeing me...

Your just having a problem wich everyone goes through. Think of it this way:
Your truck is a 50 year old man whose been with the sam girl for 30 years. sex is the same thing every day and your truck is use to it.. but your girl broke her hip( alternator) so you are back up from not gettin any so you find this really nice peice of ass (new alternator) so now your going at it and all of sudden your hip goes out then your bones start acing (switches and whatever else is going wrong) then your have erectile problems (not running correctly or at all) now you just have to get fixed up
But when you get a new titanium plastic hip or whatever and take viagra, your are a beast..
