Truck not start
The alternator went bad on my truck, i changed it. Everything ran good for a day, and now my truck wont start. I put a new battery in, but that isnt the problem. When i turn the ignition all that happens is the lights flicker on the dash. How do i fix this?

Did you check your leads? Your negative could not be grounded properly. Check all you battery connections as well as the wiring to the alternator.

Re: Truck not start
Flickering lights is has nothing to do with the starter...
Check your battery cable clamps and connections for corrosion and breaks. Also, try jump starting it. Simply saying "I have a new battery" doesn't mean it isn't dead. Need to know the voltage with the engine running.

Re: Truck not start
Sounds to me like a bad connection somewhere. Check the voltage on the battery with a meter 1st, check your cables 2nd.

Re: Truck not start
Okay so it seemed to be a bad connector is the wires from the starter to the battery. I fixed that and now it starts right up.. But now on a cold start the truck will shut off, It took me 5 tries this morning to get it to start and stay running. Could that be an electrical problem too?

Re: Truck not start
It may take a while for the ECM in your truck to re-learn all it's setting's since your battery was disconnected for a period of time. Drive it for a while and everything SHOULD straighten out.

It may take 25-50 miles or so but hopefully that's your problem.

Re: Truck not start
That should not happen. The default settings provide more than enough air and fuel to run the engine without stalling out. If it does clear itself up, great. But I doubt that is the problem. I'd look around for electrical or vacuum lines disconnected or loose.

Make sure you put everything back the way it was when you changed your alternator. Something tells me you probably had to move a few things out of the way to get to it and missed something on the install.

Re: Truck not start
I have had the ground strap on the starter corrode causing an intermittent starting issue.
At night you could see it shoot sparks when while cranking. Something to look at.
