Default Installing a Kill Switch

This Ranger sat in impound for a year.
When I got it, it had cracked heads, but it ran... so I replaced the heads..

There was no key, so we used a jumper wire from one of the yellow wires, to the red/green.. then used the other yellow to bump the starter (red/blue). it ran like that..

Then, I installed a kill switch.
At first, I only connected the yellow and red/green wires to the switch.
It didn't run anymore... and there was no fuel pressure.

[side note] - at first, it was out of gas. I put a couple gallons in and found that the tank leaks. An old repair had failed.

Then I found that the internal pump was shot, so I replaced it with this one.. It looks the same as the one that came out.. I tested it in a cup of water and,, it pumps..

But I still have no fuel pressure.

So, I'm wondering about all these other wires here at the ignition...
especially, the Brown/Pink, Black/Green, and the Grey/Yellow... since they're heavier gage than the others, and it looks like they should be hot when the key is on..

I'm not a mechanic, so the schematic is confusing to me. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!

Right now, I have a can of worms..

... I have a jumper wire going to the internal fuel pump.

I just did some tests, and got 12.4 v at the battery... and 12.4 at the internal pump.

Then I tested the inline pump.. it pumps, so I tested the wires. At the plug, I only got 11.3 volts.. I'm not sure what to make of that though..

I mean, I know this isn't the answer you are looking for but wouldn't it be a lot easier to buy a new ignition and bring it back to stock? I don't think they are very expensive. Would probably be a lot safer too

Also, I don't think it is a good idea to be testing your fuel pump with WATER

So which wires would I want to put in a switch to be a kill, I hate thought someone could take off with the truck.

Would like to kill power to coil and fuel pump. Don't mind two switches.

you need like a single pole dual throw switch. But, not sure on the wiring.

Hmmm Just a thought here but years ago I had an old Sheriffs car 83 Crown Vic(Best car I ever owned) It had a key for like an "ignition lock" or kill or something. Basically when the key cylinder was turned one way(used a different key than the ignition key) the car couldn't be started even with the ignition key. Wonder if something like this would work in this situation. I also wonder if i went to google now and typed "how to hot wire ford ranger" if it would link me here lol

oops I should add this thingumajig was located on the drivers side fender

I seen those before, lol.

If I kill power to coil and fuel pump on two switches then if one was found the other would save (maybe). Just mount two different locations!

well, it's fixed..

It turned out to be the Black/Green wire under the hood. It was disconnected and hiding among some abandoned wires from the AC.. it needed to be connected to the negative battery terminal..

Sure was a lot of work for a 5 minute fix, but I was lost when I was trying to understand the schematic. Live and learn I guess...

On mine ('88, 2.9L), the red/green is for the ignition.. Cut that, and the truck won't run.
