Default wont start

1997 Ranger 4L, 4X4, Auto trans. Ok I got stuck in a snow drift and ever since, the truck would not start in the cold morning. First morning it would not start, I placed a heat lamp on the bell housing, after about 4 hours it started up. I drove it for 6-7 miles and let it warm up good. Next morn same problem, It will just click. Put new terminals on battery and left it in a heated shop for 6 hours, then drove it home. Next morn same problem. I drove 115 miles one way to get a $100 starter, put it on, same problem, next morning. I put in a new $75 battery and still would not start. I then found that this truck has 2 solenoids, 1 on starter and 1 on fender well, I tapped the one on the fender and it started and I drove to work. So I bought the one on the fender well on my way to work and put it on during my lunch break, I work evenings and put it on at 8pm. When I got off at 12:30am it would not start, it was undeer 10F. I tapped and fiddled with the solenoid and it finally started. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe the problem is upstream of the solenoid, maybe the ignition switch, I just don't know. Ray

Check the wires that connect to the rely slot. The connections could be loose and thats why when you tap it, then the truck will start.

Alright, I bypassed ignition by using a jumper wire held onto the positive post of battery and to the coil of the solenoid and still "click", but if I do it 4-6 times it finally turns over. So I eliminated the ignition, by running direct current to the solenoid. As long as it is above 25 degs it starts. What would the cold have to do with an electrical problem?
