Re: Push button start. Need help.
personally, I think its utterly stupid to put in a push button to start your truck. Expecially since you are already going thru the motions of inserting the key
But, if its the rice your after, it is actually very easy. You will need to remove your knee panel, the metal plate and access the white block under the steering column.
Once there, look for the blue/white wire. This powers the starter. Tap into this wire. I would run it off a relay.

Rice? That's not rice at all. That's classy.

That looks cool as shit. I mean. I don't know if I'll actually even do it. Just an idea.

Re: Push button start. Need help.
It's totally pointless if you need to hold the button in. Having to insert the key makes it even more pointless. A push button start should recognize that an authorized operator is in the vehicle (some kind of RFID usually). Then upon pushing the button, turn the ignition & accessory power on, then crank the engine until it starts.
I love the missile launch controller. But it needs to be more functional.

It'd be really cool if you could do it just by having a chip in the key fob or something like the nissan altima does

I have a push button because the ignition broke. So I turn the key, push the button and go. It was supposed to be a "quick fix" but its been 3 years now.

Re: Push button start. Need help.
The setup in the video is kinda useless & ricer IMO.
But if you hid the setup, it would be a good theft deterant.

Re: Push button start. Need help.
This is another case of what's old is new again.
Cars and trucks had push button starters from the late 20's thru the 50's. Then, having the starter switched by the key was seen as being better.
Now the push button is back and being sold by car makers as an innovation.

Re: Push button start. Need help.
for what it's worth, the push button out of a honda s2000 will fit perfectly into a hole for a cigarette lighter on our trucks. they go for about $40 on ebay.
from there, if you want to turn the key then push and hold the button till it starts, wire it by tapping into the wires like pooleo said. if you want to just push and release and have it continue cranking, a timer set up will be needed.
