For 2001~2003 Ranger, 4-7 is the code for incorrect resistance in the seatbelt pretensioner circuit on the passenger side. It is a common problem and is usually caused by a poor connection under the seat. Turn off the ignition, open the PS connector, clean the pins and reassemble. Applying dielectric grease to the pins should make the repair last longer. In rare cases, the connector might need to be replaced.
It is a good idea to avoid storing things under the seats because contact with the connectors can sometimes trigger the problem.

Re: airbag light
I see there are several variations with problems associated with the "airbag light". My vehicle is an 08 Ranger FX4 and the "light" on mine comes on steady every now and then while driving and won`t go out unless I recycle the ignition. This happened during warranty but they said they would have to see it on in order to troubleshoot it. Of course it is now out of warranty and never did get it to come on near a Ford dealer. I was told that if the light is on the system may not function properly thereby not deploying the airbag when needed. Anyone else with a similar problem? This truck has been perfect with 57K miles on it with no other problems.

Total BS. There would have been a specific trouble code stored in the Restraints Control Module that would have enabled them to troubleshoot it then.

2007 and later Rangers do not display a flashed airbag code as on earlier years. You would have to have the code read from the RCM using an expensive dealer or aftermarket tool that can access the module. Unfortunately, a typical consumer level OBDII reader cannot query the RCM.

Re: airbag light
I had to replace my PAD Switch when my truck had about 21000 miles on it. Never had a problem since.

THIS is exactly what my truck did about 1 year and ten months into ownership @ ~44,000 km (about 27,000 miles).
As the vehicle was still under warranty, I took it in to the dealer and let them take care of it.

THIS was the exact diagnosis/repair that the dealer came back with when the problem was resolved (stated right on the work order).
Every so often, I'll open up the connectors (both driver's and passenger's side), clean them up, examine them for any signs of corrosion/moisture/"tightness", re-apply dielectric grease, and close them up again - no recurrence of problem since.
