How do you convert a 2-bulb to a 3-bulb Tail Light set up?
So I bought a new set of tail lights that I really like, and of course they turned out to need 3 bulbs (and I'm not returning them since I love them and can't find them in a similar 2-bulb).
Can anyone tell me how to convert a 2-bulb to a 3-bulb tail light set up?
Including which wire colour goes with what? lol. Diagrams and photos are always good.
Any (positive) input would be greatly appreciated!
S.

Good luck, I almost attempted this mod. The wiring has to be run from the fuse/relay panel to the tail lights, that's after you isolate what operates brakes and turn signals.

I don't have a recent pic of them on my truck, but these are exactly like them.

Re: How do you convert a 2-bulb to a 3-bulb Tail Light set up?
I just got similar lights for my 2007.
The new lenses have the reverse socket open for the factory fitting, along with the rear running light socket.
The rear turn signal has a fitting, bulb and wiring assembly already installed.
I assume the factory bulb has 2 filaments, with 4 wires to the socket.
I just need to know which wires to re-route from the factory red light for the turn signal, and the rest of the install will be easy.
I found instructions for 3-to-2 bulb tail light mods, but not the reverse.

They only have three wires to the bulbs because it uses the same ground. I do not ever recall running into a converter that converts 2 wire systems to three wire set ups.

Re: How do you convert a 2-bulb to a 3-bulb Tail Light set up?
OK, so if I cut the turn-signal power wire to the stock socket, and solder it to the new power wire, I should be able to just tap the new ground to the existing ground, right?
Or would I need to create a completely separate path to ground?
Either way, I need to know which wire supplies power to the blinker bulb.

If you do that then the brake light moves also.

If you are asking which wires are used for running light, brake light, turn signal, etc go to Harbor Freight and buy a multimeter for $3.00. Then just test the wires for your self.

Re: How do you convert a 2-bulb to a 3-bulb Tail Light set up?
If you are going to do this mod. leave the turn - Break light where it is and just move the tail light. To much bull s--t to separate the turn - break. You can cut the tail light wire and wire it to your new pig tail and then run you a ground. You are still going to have to use the 3157 bulb for the turn -break light and a 3156 for the tail. Brown wire should be your tail lights.
