Might be a stupid question
I would Like for my off road lights to blink with my hazards. Is this possible? I want then to be in-and-out though. I wired them so they can all blink at once but is there a way to alternate them? I don't want strobes, I want hazard lights. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Might be a stupid question
This Circuit will work only when the Hazard lights are on (Not when you use your blinkers)

Re: Might be a stupid question
Almost what I was going to draw. You don't need a separate left and right relay. One relay driven by either side's signal will work. Also, the inner terminal you have labeled as a second 87 is actually 87A.

Correct but I didn't draw the relays lol - I took them off of another site. Just to clarify 87 = On when coil has power and 87a = on when coil has no power.
True about the blinkers as well, I wasn't thinking when I was drawing... I'll fix it
***EDIT*** - Picture fixed.

Re: Might be a stupid question
The only thing I would do differently is connect the relay you have on the turn signal wire under the hood to the hazard flasher output instead. That way the relays aren't clicking away for nothing while making turns all day long.

Re: Might be a stupid question
I may have misunderstood part of what you were saying FireRanger - if you are suggesting he only use a total of 2 relays he would have to make sure that they were capable of handling the amperage (each relay is 20 or 40 amps depending on the relay you use) If both lights draw 30 amps (I'm not sure how big the lights are) a 20a relay will melt or quit functioning, with a seperate relay for each light it won't be an issue.

If he connected a seperate flasher unit YES that would work, if he used the factory flasher unit it would still click no matter what. Turn signal on left or right = flasher unit active.

Re: Might be a stupid question
A pair of 55 watt off-road lights draws 10 amps. A pair of 100 watt lights draws 17 amps. So there should be no need for a relay for each light.
Isn't the hazard flasher separate from the signal flasher? If that is still the case, then it will only energize for the hazards.

Yea, I completely forgot that there are 2 flasher units, on my 87 one is in front of the fuse box and the other one is behind. If that's the amperage then I think 1 40a relay should do the trick.... Like this;
Thanks for the correction!

Wouldn't this make them blink at the same time?

Re: Might be a stupid question
No this is why you are using the 87a pin on the relay.
Parking / Tail light flashers on = Off road lights off
Parking / Tail light flashers off = Off road lights on

Alright thanks, I'll give it a try this weekend. Where can I find my hazard power? And if I want the off road lights to alternate (2 in 2 out) do I use the 87 also?

Re: Might be a stupid question
What do you mean? You have FOUR off road lights? How many watts each?

Re: Might be a stupid question
Yikes. Can I ask what the purpose of this is? Honestly I think you would be better off with a headlight flasher for emergency vehicles rather than the series of relays and interlocks required for this.
