Default Battey goes dead looking for battery saver relay

I have a 97 ranger. i'm looking for the battery saver relay. I can't find. I have looked behind the radio and found the gem circuit board and to left of that is the abs control. behind the glove box i found what i think is the heater relay. The info I have says its in relay box#1 and its supposed to be located behind the instrument panel (not there). This truck is a plain jane. No added accessories. But it also says it could be relocated. I even have the door latches disconnected. Really need help.

Thanks

Need a lil more info here. Does it go dead while sitting over night or does it not seem like its being charged by the Alternator? Have you checked the alternator?

The relay is in the same little box under the dash as the signal flashers. Under the steering column near your right leg. There are 4 or 5 relays/flashers in it. However, I think you should tell us what the problem is before randomly replacing parts.

The battery goes dead overnight. check the alt and it checks ok. I just got this truck a while back and I knew it must had a problem because the domelight was missing.

I see. Well it could be a stuck BSR. Or it could be something friend in the GEM which controls the BSR. If you pull the BSR and it clicks off, you'll know you're on the right track.

I might be crazy or dumb (don't know which) i have just about taken the truck completely apart and I can't find the box with the relays in it. I have the radio out, the glove box out and the instrument panel out. Sure wish I a picture to go by.

my sister had the exact same problem and replaced the battery 3 times, then brought it to ford and they didnt know at all what was goin n so i bought her a battery killer ( dont know what its called) and its basically a relay that clamps on to the terminal and once the battery starts to drain its automatically stops, the relay comes with a remote to unlock or lock the system

On my '03, the box with the relays is above your right leg accessible without removing anything. It's right there in front of your face when you look down there. On the late 90's, it may actually not be there. It could be above or to the side of the glove box. I don't know when they changed the location.

It could be a lot of things. My 2002 went dead because of a failed A/C clutch relay.

Right now I have a KOEO parasitic drain that clicks the starter solenoid. I ran a test light and started pulling every relay and fuse one at a time. Fuse 26 the light went off. I suspect the battery saver relay because the battery sparked when I connected it just like when the A/C relay was bad. I'll check it with a good one.

Holy thread bump. I had the same issue, but after replacing the battery it would die after like 3 days.

OP mentioned that the dome light bulb was missing which means it was mostly likely his door switch killing the battery as it did in mine. If you have a similar issue, replace the dome light bulb so you can see if it turns off when you close the door. It probably wont, so spray some Lubricant into the door hinge and Presto! No more battery drain problem.

The passive alarm system must draw when the truck is just sitting. Today I
Am battling a new problem. The starter engages when the battery is connected.

I have pulled the starter relay, no change. I pulled the starter with solenoid and had it tested. Passed. Ok, I didn't know which relay was the starter interrupt, so I've pulled every one. I put a test light between the ground cable and the battery. When touched the solenoid clicks and the light comes on. I tried removing the interior fuses one at a time. Same results on every one.
today, I'll try the positive side. But am needing suggestions.
Thanks
