interior bulb help: cruise pod and headlights
howdy all,
2003 fx4.
i have searched for a while on the board and i'm having trouble finding answers to these questions:
is there a bulb which can be replaced in the headlight switch? (according to buggman, it looks like no?) mine has never lit up, so i don't even know if it is supposed to, but i read that some do and that they are notorious for going out.
is there a bulb which can be replaced in the cruise control pods? my left pod just went dark and i'd like to fix that. i read many posts about removing the airbag and REPLACING pods - just wondering if the light is serviceable.
thanks in advance!

Re: interior bulb help: cruise pod and headlights
Well buggman is the light expert man, but maybe I don't know why he would say no? I'm just confused.
In my 99, you take the bottom plastic piece off from under the steering wheel, then take that top piece off around the gauge cluster, and then you can unhook those wires going to the head light switch and dimmer.
And inside that there's a little bulb holder that is locked in there, need a small flathead screwdriver to turn it and pull it out.
And yes the cruise pod lights are replaceable, at least on my 99, I bought a set from pooleo with amber lights, so somehow he is able to take them apart and replace such lights.
Pooleo and Buggman are the ones that really know all that stuff.
Maybe your 03 model doesn't have such a bulb in the headlight switch or the 4x4 switch.
Hell my truck is a 99, i bought it in 2005, and those two switch lights never worked, i didn't even know they were capable of it either till i bought a led kit from pooleo.

Re: interior bulb help: cruise pod and headlights
you can remove the cruise pods and replace the bulb, yes. Its tiny and must be gotten from ford (if they still carry it) Otherwise, my self or buggman mod the pods. $25 for a set of modded pods, 6 colors to chose from.

and I also do the Headlight bulb assemblies. again, there is a bulb, but good luck finding one. I also LED mod those.
I have a thread up somewhere with pics and prices.

Re: interior bulb help: cruise pod and headlights
For the headlight switch, I went to radio shack and got an led and resistors. Did it myself and it was under $10. Came out great. Its like 8000 lumens.
For the cruise, I got blue Led's from superbrightled. I love them.

Re: interior bulb help: cruise pod and headlights
I think Ford makes you buy the entire headlight switch, at least that's what I've heard from some guys.
The headlight switch bulb holder can be modded as pooleo said we both do a similar mod
I didn't know you could get new bulbs for the cruise pods though. I've been meaning to work on a plug-n-play led mod for them for a while... just never had time to work on it yet.

Re: interior bulb help: cruise pod and headlights
my headlight switch light went out too, i got a buggman LED and spent like 45 minutes contorting my arm inside the dash to install it cuz i didn't want to disassemble anything except for pop off the end cap.

I got the B8.4D. There is a normal and high power. I like the normal better. I have one of each in my cruise right now and they look the same. If you buy them, I would buy three because you have to bend the little metal tabs down some to make better contact. The metal is real thin so be carefully. I bought 2 of each the normal and of the high power. I broke one of each.
