Default 99 Ranger Electrical Freakout

I need help! My Ranger is having some serious issues. The speedometer doesn't work, the power windows don't work, the overhead light doesn't work, the door chimes don't work, and my truck won't shift out of first. They all went out together. This happened once before and it would start and stop at random. The shop looked at it and said the connector to the GEM module in the center dash wasn't completely seated so they seated it and it worked fine. Now its happening again. I checked the module and everything looks fine, so could the module be shot? I hate to spend that kinda cash and not fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

you can pick up the module at any wrecking yard for about 5 dollars too but check your fuses first cause that sounds like the issue to me too

Well I found the fuse you guys were talking about. When I pulled it, I definitely got the same problems, but the fuse is good itself. I can smack the dash right above the G.E.M. module and occasionally get things to start working again.

then it sounds to me like the plugs are loose.. pull them out and jam them in there again. i'd even go as far as to wrap a zip tie around it just to ensure the plug stays where it should be.

You mean the connectors on the GEM module? Also when it goes screwy I get a check engine light that eventually goes away after my truck starts acting right again. I had it read today and it's the speed sensor. P0500. Could the GEM temporarily going out be blowing the speed sensor or is it a fluke?

Vss will explain the lack of shifting and speedometer so that's good. The other things are more than likely due to the GEM module that you had a problem with before. By now I'd replace it and while doing so check the ground connection on the loom that connects to that module and make sure the connector itself will lock and isn't under strain. The malfunction could have also blown the corresponding fuse(s).
