Wiring Fog light
Hey, I bought some new bulbs for my Fog lights. The one that are in my head light the small one.
When i first got it, I had it wired to my parking light at first. And my bulbs blew out or stop working. But the parking light still works. So i am thinking it was too much hooked up on the parking light witch caused my bulb to blow. But i am not sure because the bulb where the stock bulbs that came with the headlight and most likely they were the china trash
But anyways. I order some new ones, And i am wondering should i wire it that way again. Or should i wire it directly threw my batter and add a switch.
Like this light-battery-switch
Might add a inline fuse.
But i have interior lights and a amp wired up already. And i put a switch for my interior lights. I think I i might just get another switch for the fog lights. Because the the lights are only 100watts so i can get a 240watt switch..
Also i think this might make the bulb get the full power then from using the parking light.. But tell me what you guys think..

i'd run the fogs through a relay. that will alow you to push full power from the battery through a fuse to the relay then to the light, then you can trigger the relay from your parking lights if you wanted.

How does a relay work?
I am confused on how to hook it up using one..
So if i do not use a relay it wont work? Because there are switches that are 240watts and the lights are only 100watts so that will make 200watts..

Can't tell you how a relay works, but I wired my Hellas up like greyghost posted and haven't had any issues with them.

Oh alright.. I am going to Google some more information
But i am thinking about doing this sense my lights are only 100watts and i have 2 so that will make it 200watts
I am going do this
Wire
The Lights to a switch and then wire it to the battery. And i will probably add a inline fuse. So i will use the switch to turn it on and off. Sense the switch can hold 240watts..
Because there no need for a relay if i have a switch that can hold the amount of watts the light produce.

I wired the lights to a switch..
I notice that sense i order the lights from ebay they are not as high quailty/ bright as the name brand ones..
But they are alright.. But next time i will know to buy from the store and pay that little extra to get better quailty. But they are Okay though..
And i just wire it directly to the battery using a switch it seems fine

the whole idea of the relay is so the full power from the battery isn't going through the switch. if you run the full 12 volts from the battery through that relay, you can take a wire put a 2 amp fuse in it and tiger the relay to turn on the lights. the less wire with the full 12 volts you have between the lights and battery the better off you are gonna be.

Whenever wiring off road lights, it's important to add a relay to the wiring. Failure to do so would cause excessive heat in the wiring and switch and create a risk of fire. This is caused by the amount of power being drawn by the high output lights or accessories. A relay works by using a switch to run 12 volts to the relay. The relay acts as an electrical switch that activates and draws power straight from a good fused battery connection and sends it to the lights or accessory. The power actually going to the switch never gets routed to the lights. Generally you'll have a larger gauge wire going to the lights than to the switch because the lights pull much greater power.
Why do I want to use a relay and do I really need to? Anytime you want to switch a device which draws more current than is provided by an output of a switch or component you'll need to use a relay. The coil of an SPDT relay that we most commonly use draws very little current (less than 200 milliamps) and the amount of current that you can pass through a relay's common, normally closed, and normally open contacts will handle up to 30 or 40 amps. This allows you to switch devices such as headlights, parking lights, horns, etc., with low amperage outputs such as those found on keyless entry and alarm systems, and other components. In some cases you may need to switch multiple things at the same time using one output. A single output connected to multiple relays will allow you to open continuity and/or close continuity simultaneously on multiple wires.
