You have an evaporator in the cab which looks like a heater core (small radiator) which is the part that the blower pushes air through to make it cold. Technically it actually carries heat from inside the cab out to the front of the rig to the condensor, which looks like another radiator, usually mounted in front of your actual radiator.

The system shares an electric blower (fan) with the heater. If you're melting wires you have something seriously wrong with your wiring as it should blow a fuse long before anything melts.

You mean you temp control knob is getting hot. What do you mean burnes wires. I am not sure what an ac assembly is. Bit I looked up your temp control gauge last weak and it is sold seperatly please be as specific as possible with your problem and what you have done so far

what happens is I can have everything off. the temp is set to red, the selector
is set to off and the speed of the fan is off. I can turn the selector to defrost, towards the floor or any of them. turn the speed of the fan to any of the four speeds and the heat will blow hot for about 2 minutes. after the two minutes I smell
burning wires and the face of my ac
selector gets hot. as if the ac temp/speed/area is burning up when I use it. if I turn everything off, it doesn't
happen.

Default Heater panel problem

If I were to venture a SWAG I'd say you may have a vent system leak up under your dash panel. Ford has a pretty good furnace in their rigs - enough so that full blast is more than plenty heat for most folks. If you have a slight leak someplace and hot air is getting pushed around behind your dash it could very well heat up all that plastic and cause the smell you describe. figured it out. my thermostat was bad, my heater control valve leaks water, my heater core is bad, and the burning wire smell was my ac compressor about to go out, and the hot face is just the illumination of the settings. my ac compressor went out 3 days after I posted and now everything is fixed but my heater core and control valve. thanks guys for trying.
