Alternator vs. driving lights
Looking to install a set of KC Hilites on my truck in the next couple of months, along with a gauge set, and an aftermarket ignition coil. Right now I'm in the research, planning, and ask questions like a mofo stage. I'm also doing quite a bit of study in the area of automotive electrical (about ready to start sketching out a wiring diagram, researching applicable fuses/cb's to install)
The setup I'm looking to run is probably going to be a pair, maybe a trio of 55w (or brighter) driving lights mounted on a bar. Trying to figure out if such a setup would merit an upgrade to a 130 amp or more alternator. The only other extras this system would be powering in addition to the lights would be an electric gauge set (with which I imagine the lights for the gauges would require more than the gauges themselves), and a non-amplified CB radio. I currently have no intention of running putting excess load on the system i.e. heat/ac, stereo full blast, factory fog and headlights all at once.
