1997 Anti-Theft system freaking out
I drove my 1997 Ranger to work this morning without any problems. When I went to leave for lunch the truck would not start and the anti-theft light is blinking rapidly, there is a relay in the dash somewhere making noise and the door locks are clicking. I had to remove the 20amp anti-theft fuse in the engine compartment to get it to stop. The other way to stop it is to put the key in the ignition and turn the truck on (even though it wont start).
Possibly related: I have an after market stereo with a crutchfield kit to connect it to the stock radio connectors. One of the speakers came disconnected. Yesterday I took the deck out and made the repair and in the process blue a 10amp fuse (controlled the 12v constant power to the deck). When I put it back on the deck powered up but there was no sound. I assumed another fuse was blown (possibly to the factory amp) but didn't have time to find it and put it back together so I could drive it.
Another thing to note, the truck has 150k miles on it. The battery was last replaced just before the truck went out of warranty. I'm planning on starting there.
