back-up lamps not working
Like the title says, my back-up lamps are not working.
I checked the bulbs, the fuse, and the switch on the transmission.
I'm not sure what else to check. Anyone have any ideas?
Its a 2004 3.0 manual

There is a search feature at the top right. Also, Google is your friend.

Well first things first is to actually replace the bulbs. I can't tell you how many people keep insisting to me that their bulbs look fine and therefore must be fine... only to finally replace them like I asked them to do 50 times and find they were bad.
If the fuse is fine, and the bulbs are fine, the problem is likely the switch on the transmission. Where and how it is replaced I don't know.

Yes, how did you check the switch on the transmission?

I pulled the switch and tested it with a multimeter. When I pushed the switch in the circuit completed and showed a reading on the multimeter and stopped when I let off the switch.
Should I really try replacing the bulbs even though both of the filaments look fine? I think I'll just check for a reading at the connection with the multimeter instead of buy new bulbs.

Re: back-up lamps not working
bulbs are pretty cheap along with the switch. if one bulb is out it can make it to where neither one works. my tail light bulbs looked fine but wouldn't work i replaced them and they worked again.

Re: back-up lamps not working
I would think checking or replacing the bulbs would be done before pulling switches out of the transmission. Work in logical order man.
If you checked the switch, you should have checked to see if it was getting power to begin with while you were down there. And also check for voltage at the light sockets with the truck in reverse (and the engine OFF and brake set!!!!!!).
One bulb out will not stop the other from functioning. Its a parallel circuit, one device shouldn't stop the others.

Re: back-up lamps not working
I did check the bulbs first.
I was going to check for voltage at the socket and switch plug but I wasn't sure if they'd be hot without the engine running.
So you're saying that it will get a current even if the truck is off?

With the key in the ON position. You don't need to start the engine.

Re: back-up lamps not working
Well I got it fixed.
I was getting 12.6 volts at the switch and nothing at the socket for the bulbs. Pulled the switch and tested it again, it seemed to be working only randomly and not every time I pushed the ball in.
Put a new switch in earlier and they work great.
