2001 Ford Ranger voltage problems
I got a 2001 ranger 4.0 v6. rebuilt the alt. replaced the battery and the belt and the volts still read 11.86. When I take the alt. out of the truck and test it on the bench it reads 14 volts. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? Thank you

I suppose it could be some cabling somewhere in the charging system. Check for breaks or shorts

When you turn the key to ON (without starting it) does the battery and air bag light up? I bet it doesn't. The field current wire to the alternator is still unplugged or the fuse for the ABS and battery light is blown. Strangely though, I do not see a fuse for that in the manual. Look for a blown fuse in the in-cab fuse panel.

The alternator is grounded by way of being bolted to the engine.

I'm having a similar situation with my 2000 XLT 3.0
been hard of the battery using an inverter for my laptop. blew a 7.5 fuse in cabin now alt. reads 12volts, steady- not fluctuatiating battery fully charged, starter only gives one click. I checked the fusable link at starter, checked battery connections/replaced voltage reg. any Ideas?..told to clean all the connections..anywhere a diagram of the charging system w/ fuse points? Thanks guys
