Unhappy Not the ignition switch, any ideas?

We have 1997 ranger 4cyl with the 8 spark plugs.
My brother went to go start it the other day and did, but about 10 seconds later he shut it off because he forgot to do something. He went back out to start it again and leave and it wouldn't start.

So I went and looked and the key would spin freely, there were a few dash lights on because it was "stuck" on battery on. I could shift it from Park to low without the key even in by just pressing the brake because again it was stuck in the "battery on" position.

Everyone said that it was the ignition switch online, and in the stores. So I bought one and I threw it in and it still didn't work.

This is a video of me switching the old to the new and it not working.

I'm guessing something is jammed inside where the switch turns but I don't know. Any Ideas?

Please and Thanks in advanced.

What you removed was the tumblers not the switch. I am not familiar with the ranger, but the switch could be down on the steering column connected to the key by a metal rod. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

I did end up taking the switch out from beneath the steering column.
As shown in picture attached.

I was able to start the truck by pushing the rod forward and shut it off by pulling it all the way back.

But that is not the problem. The thing that pulls the rod forward and backward seems to be messed up. If I put a screwdriver in it and pull it back all the way I can feel the tension of a spring wanting to push it somewhat forward, but when I push it all the way forward it doesn't seem to bounce back, or even start the truck when the switch's rod is in it.

That tip on the end of that key switch (thing you put the key in) turns inside causing that rod to move back and forth. And of course that rod moves the pin on the actual ignition switch.

When you turn the key does the big rod move (the one that moves the rod on the ignition switch.)?

If I was at my house I could mess around with my extra column but I'm about 100 miles away.

This image is from another ford forum I found while researching this problem.

That rod will push forward and come back in the first half of the column. But I follow it and it will push the second half and the second half won't come back. I'm guessing there is no connection for the two or something and working right lol.
