Did you get the Freon with the leak seal additive?

Yes I did as a matter of fact. The pressure was still holding this evening, if it is still ok tomorrow, I will top it off and go from cool to cold. Thanks for your help.

Another way to get trhe a/c compressor working when freon is real low, is to disconnect the low pressure switch connector and put in a paper clip into the 2 terminal ports. When freon is built up, the compressor will engage on it's own. Or as said, you can jump the a/c relay if you know what to connect. The low pressure switch prevents the a/c compressor engagement when no freon is in the system.

I have a very similar problem on my 1996 Ranger 3.0L. Can you tell me where the ac relay is located on my truck?

Typically, they are located in the BJB under the hood.

In the owners manual for the 96 Ranger, on page 314, it is seen that the relay in question is located in the BJB (aka PDB).
