Default Kill Switch

Ok, Im going to knock out two questions in one post...hope that is ok.
First question is:
I have a 2005 4x4 4.0L Automatic. When the truck is in cruise control and at a steady speed there is a strange noise. It sounds almost like crackling or russeling paper coming from the engine bay. The truck drives fine and I have never had a problem (other then the one that will be covered in the next question). Now the mystery comes into play... My dad has a 2005 4x2 5-speed 3.0L that makes the same noise...I also had a 2002 4x4 5-speed 3.0L that made the same noise.Im thinking it is normal..but Im curious about what causes it...

second question...
My Inertia switch went out on me which is a common problem i have heard. But what is the best fix for it. I dont want to buy the harness and solder it in and stick the kill switch back on if it is just going to happen again. can I just connect the two wires together to get rid of the kill switch? or do I have to put the thing back in? Has anyone else fixed this probelm? is there a recall?

Thank you for the help
Ziggy

1) The rattling noise with the cruise control is the accelerator pedal. Engine vibration is being transmitted down the throttle cable and causing the linkage on the pedal to vibrate. It happens at cruise because your foot is not on the pedal to dampen the vibration. I bet if you place your foot on the pedal while its happening, the noise will stop and you will feel it. I put but load of silicone on it to stop it from happening.

2) You should replace it if it is constantly tripping for no reason. You should NOT bypass it or replace it with a piece of wire. It has a very important purpose.

I've had the same rattle on my truck before and after cruise install. But yeah it definitely sounds like it comes from the accelerator cable. I think Bob said once that it is that spring on the top of the pedal that holds tension on the cable.

Whats this about buying a new harness for the switch? Why?

THe switch is fine it works, but the female part to the switch has corroded over time and the wires have melted out of the grey adaptor piece that goes into the kill switch. I knwo the switch is important, but i have also read that this is a common problem. JUst curious if anyone has come up with a solution and not just a cover up

I don't think that a common issue. Once in a great while, someone reports the switch malfunctions frequently and needs to be replaced. But anyway, if the terminal on the device is corroded and destroyed, I don't see any other alternative than replacing it.
