Default Using turn signals disables brake light

Is anyone well versed in tail light electrical?

I have a 92' Ford Ranger with 2.9 V6 engine. Using my turn signals will temporarily disable one of the brake lights (won't light up). The failed brake light will not necessarily be on the same side as turn signal used. Then I start engaging one of the turn signals with or without depressing brake pedal, and the brake light will light up again. And the problem duplicates frequently when I use turn signals

I tested the tail lights extensively in the reflection of office building glass, and the problem is definitely tied in with turn signals. This all started after the truck was rear-ended in 2004. What is the problem here?

There are no other car light problems, just the brake light thing. Thanks.

Do you have the separate amber turn signals? Do you have a trailer light harness? If you have the trailer harness, it could be all corroded and full of crap. Very common source of a taillight troubles.

I only have separate amber turn signals in front. I have no trailer harness wiring. MAACO screwed up something when they repaired the rear body damage years ago. I took it back to them and they still did not get it right.

Ok. You realize the turn signals and brakes use the same filament of the same bulb, right? When you put your left signal on, the left brake/turn light flashes. If you happen to have your foot on the brake, only the right light will be lit up steady because the left one is flashing.

Yes, Fireranger I was already aware of the fact you stated below. But I'm glad you brought that up.

The single failed brake light problen I am experiencing is when the brake lights are the ONLY tail lights being utilized.

My right t-signal turns off my cruse control. My right t-signal lights come on when I apply the break. What the hell is going on? Sometimes the wiper comes on while I'm just driving.

The problem has already been fixed. It was a faulty turn signal switch in the steering column. As someone mentioned before, the brake and trun signal share same bulb and filament.

I wonder if this could be part of Henry's problem?
