Default Battery Died When Turned On Passenger Air Bag...Help Please!

So I was driving my 1999 Mazda B2500 today with my wife and noticed at a stoplight that the passenger airbag was off. At a long light, I cut the car off and put the key in to turn the airbag off. When I went to start the car again, nothing happened...no clicking, blinking lights, nothing

I was able to jump the car and drive the 15 min home. The battery appears to now be dead. A few lights flicker, but nothing happens when the key is turned.

Does anyone know why turning on the airbag would suddenly kill the battery? Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks

Coincidence. I don't see how turning an airbag on or off can cause problems. I've had batteries go dead w/o warning, but nothing like that.

x2. pull the alt and the battery, take them down to the local parts store and have them both tested.

[quotepull the alt and the battery, take them down to the local parts store and have them both tested.][/quote]Or just drive to your local auto parts place like Advance, O'Reilly's, or Autozone. They will come out to your vehicle and test for free.

you get a more accurate diagnosis with them off the vehicle. I've had them come out with a computer and say all was fine, but pull the same parts off and have them bench tested and fail. plus, if the OP is having problems keeping a charge on the battery, it might be kinda hard to drive it there.
