Question Cruise control wires....

So Clinton was kind enough to ship me some sweet cruise control buttons. I got all my parts in so I began installing the driver side mirror, the door lock actuator (what a PITA!!!) and moved onto the CC buttons. It is an 11 y/o truck so when I was removing the connectors, ONE of the wires broke off! If you know what I am talking about, they are really small and there are about 10 wires for each side of buttons. They were in there pretty good due to corrossion or something.....but anyway, I pushed the wire back in and it is in there pretty good. I DID NOT pin out the harness because I do not have the skematics, nor do I own a voltometer.

When I went to test it out, the SPEED CONT light on the dash board just kept flashing about once every 20 seconds. The CC did not work obvly.....suggestions? I would assume I ruined the wiring harness, but cant seem to find a place to buy one!

I did try the self test.....but everytime I held the OFF button and turned the key, the cruise control light would continue to flash every 20 seconds or so. I stopped when it blinked 10 times. I also checked the 9, 10, and 13 fuses because I heard they are all related to the CC and could cause issues (even though I would have had other symptoms). I also heard some crazy stuff about even a burnt out break light can cause the CC to stop working.

I did unhook the battery because I had to remove to airbag....this would not have effected CC right? I cant find the wires anywhere online either so I will keep you posted Clinton, I might bring the cable into work to check for continuity, etc! Is there a chart to determine endpoints?

I just called the dealer and the part number I need is F87Z9C888BB for $123.76.

However, the technician said that because I disconnected the harness from the steering column, it "reset the software"??? He said it was $90 to hook up his computer and make the correction....similiar to the OBD2 but for the GEM or ECU I guess? Does this sound right? Sounds like BS to me, there has to be a way to get this thing working and replace parts without messing with any computer BS.

Total BS. THe only computer component that the cruise control system is connected to is the GEM (if its RABS). Its only connected to the GEMs speed signal, and thats just an output of the GEM not an input.

You said when you did the test the light blinked every 20 seconds. The test only takes like 5 seconds. Did the light blink after each key press?

Nope....it only flashed in the normal time interval. I tried multiple test attempts but could not get it to do anything but blink when it wanted to. It did not matter if I pressed a key, which key I pressed first (I tried all of them), how long I held the pressed key, or anything.

The wires that I jacked up were to the ground so I thought I could slip them back in to place (which I did and it looked like it should have worked). Like I said, I didnt check for continuity or anything, but something is jacked up.

Is there anyway to tell if my truck has had the CC recall mod done?

You can call a dealer and give them your VIN number.

Ok...ill try that when I get home. I thought the mod was for brake fluid dripping on the servo or something? I dont know where the servo is, but I know Im not leaking any break fluid.
