no stop lights !!
I kind gent came alongside at a stop light to tell me I had no stop lights (beats rear ending me!).
The Haynes manual is not helpful - I've checked all fuses and they are okay - where exactly will I find the stop light switch? It doesn't seem to be on the cab side of the brake pedal.

Re: no stop lights !!
Follow the brake pedal upwards and where it pivots , is located a small micro switch .
It sends a signal to the brake lights.
I would check your bulbs FIRST,though

Ya I'm totally bullshitting. It actually uses a telepathic link to the driver. When it sense you thinking about slowing down, it closes a relay which illuminates the brake lights. Its possible it isn't working because of something getting in the way of the brainwaves. Are you by chance wearing a foil hat?

Re: no stop lights !!
But I NEED the foil hat with the Florida sun, otherwise my brain gets fried.
Thanks for the comedy routine guys, I'll have a look at the pedal (gee, you need to be a pretzel to get under there!)
AND I'll check the bulbs, too!

Re: no stop lights !!
Yes, there's a microswitch. Hook up a test light to the pedal (ground), and poke the switch wire when pushed down, and at normal rest. Test light will come on each way if the switch is alright. Just checked mine to be ok, as I am having the same problem with my brake lights....still. I have checked all the fuses, connectors, micro switch, all fine, but still no lights, or backup lights. Backup is probably the switch. Anybody know the easiest way to access the backup switch that I believe is on top of the tranny?

Re: no stop lights !!
A new microswitch (and a session with a chiropractor) fixed the problem.
Okay, now I admit I was a total (fairly mild word censored) - because we are walking distance from the Sarasota Ford place I walked over and got the Autopart item - $30+, still in shock but after I fitted it I check Autozone - $7.99+tax...DOH!!
I just cannot put myself through the torture of scrabbling around upside down in that cab in 90+ heat - lesson learned, methinks!!

Re: no stop lights !!
Easy to replace. Takes me like 3 mins. Just take some pliers and pull the pin holding the switch on like a cotter pin. Then just wiggle it out, replace, put pin back in.
Also to make sure its the switch:
If you have cruise control, set the speed and lightly tap (i repeat lightly tap) the brakes. If it doesn't stop with the lightest of taps it is your brake switch.
You do have a brake pressure switch (for redundancy) so you want to do this lightly so no actual pressure is on the fluid in the master cylinder.
