Default Electrical issue

My dad has a 89 Bronco 2, 2.9 v6 and he is not able to get it to start, has replaced the silinoid on the finderwell and replaced the ignition. The truck will crank over and acts like its going to start but when you let off the key it dies, its like there is something that is not keeping the power to the engine, any suggestions? The person he bought it from had a push button start , but that malfuctioned so he took it back to the key, any help would be awesome.
