Question about Cruise Control for 2011
I recently purchased a 2011 Ranger Sport that did not have cruise control. The dealership convinced me that they could switch the steering wheel out with one that has cruise, so I went ahead and purchased the truck (not having cruise control was a deal breaker for me). Well, I took my truck in to have the cruise installed and when I picked my truck up they had installed an aftermarket throttle control at the back end of my steering column. Needless to say I'm not happy. They told me that Ford will no longer allow them to replace the steering wheel and that the OEM replacement is this cheap-looking, poorly placed throttle control. Is there any way that I can get a steering wheel w/ cruise control installed? I don't want to just take the dealerships word for it. I'm even willing to purchase a steering wheel (from a wrecked vehicle, etc) and have it put on by an independent mechanic.

Wth! As you can see from the pic:
That my cruise is on the steering wheel. I would let them know its not acceptable and that either they get the same steering wheel that I have here (which is OEM) or that they take the truck back and get you one that does have it. Period. Was it in your contract you needed cruise?

Re: Question about Cruise Control for 2011
Thank you very much for the posts. I just spoke to the dealership this morning to let them know of my displeasure. They have assured me that since this truck did not originally have cruise on it, that the electronic system was not set up to accept a STEERING WHEEL cruise, that the only option was the cheap after market option (they did not discover this until this week when they tried to put it on my truck). They had promised me the steering wheel version, but obvious did not do their homework so now it appears that I'm screwed. I did insist that he exhaust his efforts in making 100% sure that there is no way they can put a steering wheel on, even if it means changing the electronics within the steering column. My concern is that it's a matter of $$$$ for them, because they would have to eat the cost. I don't trust them to be honest, so that's why I'm here looking for input.

Re: Question about Cruise Control for 2011
Hey Andy, quick question.....did your truck come with the cruise control already in it? My dealer isn't denying that the 2011 Ranger's can have cruise in the steering wheel, what he's saying is that if it isn't BUILT that way originally, that it cannot be added later.

Re: Question about Cruise Control for 2011
My truck indeed had CC when i bought but it is very possible to add CC yourself. Many members on here have done it before with steering wheel from the J/Y. So the fact that ford has failed to help another customer doesnt surprise me. Ford makes many great products but their customer service is seriously lacking. Perhaps a member on here that has swapped his steering wheel can chime in.
Theres a bit of info that could help here.
