Default OBD2 port technical info needed

I am looking at getting a bluetooth transceiver to plug into the OBD2 port so I can use a scangauge-like app on my phone. I have heard many complaints that the transceiver drains the battery if you leave it in all the time. I don't want to have to plug/unplug it all the time and put wear and tear on my OBD2 port.

Does anyone know if the OBD2 port on these trucks supplies power all the time, or only when the ignition is switched on?

I know with my scanner, as soon as i hook it up, it turns on with the truck off. I have no batteries in mine so I'd assume yes.

Thanks for the info. That means for simplicity and ease of use I need to get a Scangauge at 3X the cost.

The OBD2 port is powered at all times.

You could always rewire the power wire for it. It is on the same circuit as the power port.

or you could get something like this :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBD2-...motiveQ5fTools
and plug/ unplug it from there or wire a switch into it inline.

Thanks for the ideas, but that's too complicated for me - I'll just save my money and wait to get a Scangauge LOL.
