Turn Signal Issue
hey guys the past couple days my turn signals have been acting weird. when i go to turn them on they start slow for 1 sec and then just flash really fast, it does this both ways. when i go to do my hazards they flash regular. all my lights are in check and working. shaun(fordzilla80) said he had this problem and eventually a bulb actually went out but to me that seem like luck cus i dont think it actually senses a bulb about to burn out. i took of my kick panel and tried to find the wires or something from lisening but i can seem to find anyhting. any ideas guys?

Re: Turn Signal Issue
Your bulb IS about to go out. I bet if you replace it (turn signal bulbs are like $6.50 a pair), they will flash normally.

Re: Turn Signal Issue
It doesn't really "sense" it. The filaments (or whatever they are called) inside just go bad and that just makes the trucks signals start to flash faster for some reason. Sometimes they will last another year before replacing them, or sometimes they go out immediately.

Re: Turn Signal Issue
but if the filiment goes bad then how does the bulb actually keep flashing? its just strange that with the hazards on they flash normal but as a turn signal they flash really fast.

Re: Turn Signal Issue
Well the problem with this failing bulb theory is it would mean one or more bulbs on BOTH sides are simultaneously and identically failing. And mysteriously work fine with the hazards and brakes. I find this unlikely. It is more likely that it is a component common to the the turn signal circuit regardless of what side is flashing. Basically the only thing is the flasher, and consequently it is also what decides to fast, slow, and normal flash.
If you want to spend $12 replacing light bulbs that are working fine, be my guest. But that same $12 will buy you a new signal flasher and is more likely to solve the problem.
The reason the hazards work fine is that they are on a different circuit with a different flasher.

Re: Turn Signal Issue
Look under the dash below and to the right of the steering column. There is a little black box with a cover you can pop off, inside will be a few relays and the flashers. You can tell which one is the signal flasher by just putting your hand on it and you'll feel it clicking when the signals are on (I forget which one numerically it is).

Your other right. Like below the steering column and towards the middle of the truck.
