Default no headlights or running lights....

I have a 2006 ranger 2.3 and i had a hid kit installed....it worked fine for months but now there is a problem. all of a sudden my headlights stopped all together along with my running/fog lights. When i try to turn the headlights on only my taillights will come on with my dash lighing up but thats it....i have checked all the fuses and switched relays with no luck.....

i was thinking main headlight switch or maybe the indicator/ high low beam switch would be the problem....

any ideas?

The HID's probably died. If you bought a cheaper kit, that happens. I had a cheap kit at first, worked flawlessy for a few months and then a ballast crapped out and it would blow a fuse everytime. Hopefully it didnt fry any wiring. Double check you fuses, try reinstalling normal halogen bulbs.

i think there is no power going to the hid box at all....both stopped at the same time and the fog/running lights are out as well....if the fuses are all good then to me is has to be a switch. i checked the plugs at the switches and nothing looks fried or burnt....

Lets just pretend for discussion sake that both HID ballasts, or the hi/lo relay module crapped out. This would not magically make the fog lights and front parking lights stop working too.

Check the ground cable on the front of the truck to the left of the radiator. That is where a number of circuits get their ground from, including the front lighting. Its the only thing common too everything you're having a problem with.

hmm. Could also be the headlight switch or the wire feeding it then. Those have been known to fail. It is a common component.

x2!!
i was looking at a wiring diagram online and it shows that the headlight, running lights, and high beam indicator on the dash are controlled by the headlight switch and the multifunction switch. So i am pretty sure its one of the two...ill do some voltage testing to see where the current stops. does anyone have a diagram that would show me which pins to check on the plug?

I just had a similar problem. My headlights went out but everything else worked fine. Also when I hold down my brights switch it worked fine. I tore apart my column and took off the pigtail switch and i notices that the clip that holds in the headlight wires was pretty much melted. So i cut all the wires and put on insulated connectors and connected them back up without the clip. My lights have worked ever since.
